Ah, 100 degree heat index, you gotta love that.
Mowed the lawn Friday afternoon, super hot. 2 big bottles of Gatorade hot. But first I went and bought a new putter. It's a Odyssey White Hot belly putter. Took it out to the range and it really did make a difference. It's very easy to get your putts on line that way. I struggled a little with distance control however but that will come before too long I think.
Saturday I played in a charity golf tournament to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Southern Wisconsin. It was a scramble and was paired with a co-worker, another consultant and his wife. As I thought, I putted well but struggled with the distance control. I left a few putts right on the lip, just didn't hit them quite hard enough, but the line was great.
The driver was really working though. I think I may have hit the best 3 drives of my life. On number 11, a 315 yard par 4 I drove it 290 right up to the green and in the middle of the fairway. Easily my best on that hole. Of course, of the 4 of us no one hit the green from 25 yards. Sheesh.
On the 1st hole (we started on 9 in a shotgun format), a par 4 playing 280 from the white tees I actually took my drive over a grove of trees and landed it square in the middle of the green. We two putted for birdie from there. I couldn't believe that shot, and was giddy when we drove around the corner and saw my ball lying there.
Then on the last hole we played, the 8th, a 374 yard par 4, in 95 degree heat after 5 beers, I pulled out my driver and smoked it, I mean smoked it. It was high and had a nice draw right down the middle... We drove over a hill and I couldn't believe my eyes. The ball was lying in the middle of the fairway and close. Using the GPS we saw it was 50 y ards from the pin. That's a 324 yard drive! Unreal... my farthest ever for sure. I'm only 5'8", 170 lbs, I don't think I'm supposed to do that, especially exhausted and buzzed but hey, I'll take it.
Anyway, we finished at 3 under par 68. The winner was 16 under, we weren't even close. But they were selling Mulligans for $5 each and many teams loaded up on them. I saved my money for beer... :)
I just returned from the Brewers/Reds game in Milwaukee. The Miller Park roof was closed since we had t-storms earlier in the day but by the time the game was over it was 96. There's absolutely no breeze in there with the roof closed, it's like being in a sauna. They won 4-3, barely hanging on to win as the Reds scored 3 in the 9th after not doing anything the whole game. Ben Sheets was phenomenal until the 9th. He had only given up 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 10 in 8 innings. Unfortunately he went back out in the 9th and on his 101st pitch gave up a 2 run homer to Griffey to make it 4-2. Turnbow then came on to give up another homer to Aurilia and then put 2 more guys on. Newcomer Cordero came on to close out the game, just barely. The offense was provided by newcomer Kevin Mench who had an rbi single in the 1st and a 3-run homer in the 7th.
Supposed to be 98 Monday before finally cooling down a little.

You can always tell the person that is struggling putting - belly putter.
I'm not even going justify that and just let you advancing age and senility take over.
The next thing I know you will start to replace your irons with "trouble" irons!
I'll get concerned if you ever beat me...
