Hockey Finale

A fitting end to our summer hockey season last night. We tied 2-2 to tie for 3rd place. Oh well, at least we didn't lose.

When I got there everyone was scrambling around like crazy people. First, they were doing sign ups for winter so there were too many people around. Second, it was 15 minutes to game time and we had no goalie and only 1 defenseman.

Luckily 1 more defenseman showed up but our goalie never did. Fortunately for us the center on my line also plays goalie (in fact, he was the winning goalie in the championship game after ours), so he suited up at goal. We had to shift our lines around which always causes us problems.

After a scoreless period and a half, a give away on our D led to a breakaway for their first goal. Soon after they got a rebound off a scramble and stuffed it past for a 2-0 lead.

Half way through the 3rd period I took a pass at center ice and saw a defenseman jumping me to break it up and caught a winger to my right just as I got hit. I was able to tip a pass to him avoiding the defenseman and he went in alone and scored through the five hole.

A few minutes later I was breaking in on left wing with my buddy Bill trailing me. The defenseman was all over me so I dropped it to Bill and cut to the front of the net. The D stayed with me and Bill walked in and rifled one low on the glove side to tie the game. He had just moved to wing from D and it was his first shift there. Maybe he should do it more often! Of course, he was our best D too.

We had a couple more chances but nothing really high quality. Last chance I got a pass up the left side and had 3 people on me so I had to stop and cut back to the middle and was able to get off a slapper from just inside the blue line that had some mustard on it but got blocked by a defenseman to the side boards as the clock ticked down to 00:00. No shootout or anything, just game over...

Winter season starts in a month so I have time to give my body some much needed rest.

Goal for this weekend, finish the basement! I really want to golf and Sunday is going to be 70 so it's gonna be tough to not sneak out for 18...

Have a great weekend, later.

Glad you liked it. I know hockey isn't nearly as exciting as sitting in front of a computer screen playing imaginary games with imaginary people, so thanks for sticking with it.
